Since the new national standard traffic signal lights have been put into use on roads, they have attracted many people’s attention. In fact, the new national standard for traffic signal lights was implemented as early as July 1, 2017, that is, the new version of the Specifications for the Setting and Installation of Road Traffic Signal Lights formulated by the National Standardization Administration Committee. It was not until the last two years that road traffic began to be implemented. The new standard will unify the display mode and logic of traffic lights across the country. The original second reading mode will also be replaced by the cancellation of second reading and stroboscopic reminder. In addition, another change of traffic lights in the new national standard is that they have changed from the original three palace grid to the nine palace grid, with a vertical column of round lights in the middle and direction indicators on both sides.
There are many advantages to cancel the countdown of traffic lights in the new national standard. The traditional traffic lights are very simple, and the traffic lights are basically switched alternately according to the set fixed time, regardless of the number of vehicles and pedestrians on the road. But now the traditional traffic signal light is obviously not applicable, because it is not humanized enough.
For example, many cities have serious traffic jams, especially in rush hours, and it is easy to have asymmetric traffic on both sides of the lane. For example, during the off duty time, there are all cars on the way home, but there are almost no cars on the other side. Or in the middle of the night, there are few vehicles on the road, but the time of the traffic lights remains the same. No matter whether there is a car or not, we still have to wait for a minute or two.
The upgraded traffic signal light is a new type of intelligent signal light, which can detect the real-time traffic flow at intersections and automatically analyze and adjust the release mode and passing time of each direction signal light. If there is little traffic flow in one direction at the intersection, the intelligent traffic signal controller will end the green light in that direction ahead of time, release other lanes with large traffic flow, and reduce the waiting time for red lights. In this way, the coordinated operation of multiple intersections can be realized, the traffic efficiency of vehicles at the whole intersection can be improved, and the intelligent diversion and traffic congestion can be alleviated.
